Contemporary Design

This eye-catching bowl is part of the Kawa Porcelain collection. Each one-off piece is handmade by Souda, the wave-making design studio specializing in furniture, lighting, and home décor, founded by Isaac Friedman-Heiman, Shaun Kasperbauer, and Luft Tanaka, in 2012.

All graduates of Parsons School of Design, the three members of Souda share a passion for process-driven design. In their Brooklyn studio, they developed the innovative method of slip-casting with reusable leather molds to produce the Kawa collection.

The finished bowl belies its manufacturing process through the indication of the leather's folds and subtle microtextile imprints on the ceramic surface. Each Kawa piece is unique, owning a slightly different variation on the same form, as this unconventional, malleable mold welcomes unpredictability into the design process itself.

The Kawa Bowl is also available in bone white.
