Basel Basel Basel!!!
I'm in Basel for the fairs. So first stop: The Fondation Beyeler! The grounds are breathtaking, as always. Adjacent to the museum is a field of perfectly Swiss, grazing cows. Sam Keller was brilliant to invite Maurizio Cattelan to exhibit this year during Art Basel.
Then off I went to Design Miami/ Basel. The fair looks incredible in the new Herzog and De Meuron hall. The whole show was so well presented and the dealers brought great pieces. Congratulations to Marianne and the Design Miami/ team.
This Gio Ponti mirror at Nilufar gallery was so delightful I wanted to pull it off the wall and put it in my handbag.
These weird and wonderful wall mounted mushrooms by Beatrice Brovia & Nicolas Cheng can be used as decorative elements as well as functional knobs. The colours are so jelly fish and unexpected.
The presentation of Pierre Paulin's work at Jousse Entreprise gallery was one of my favorite stands. Great quality and what can I say just: FUN, FUN, FUN!
Carwan Gallery is presenting one of my favorite designer-architects, India Mahdavi. I would have taken everything on the stand: the planters, the tables, even the flowers used for atmosphere. The brilliantly coloured tiles are all handmade in Turkey, and then Italian mosaic masters create the tabletops. Some of the planters are coated with pure gold, unbelievable!
...and then off onto another adventure.
