Original Gispen 1401 armchair designed by Wim Rietveld for Gispen. Initially this model was called the ‘Gispen 415’, but in 1960 it became the ‘Gispen 1401’. The armchair was shown for the first time in 1954 at the 10th Milan Triennale and was awarded a gold medal! And not for nothing, it really is a piece of candy from an armchair! Not too big (note the seat height) and now a popular design icon!

These armchairs just came from the upholsterer. They have been reupholstered with the Keymer Manchester 3 fabric; a warm red rib fabric. The chairs are in good condition, still fitted with the original floor caps, with signs of wear on the metal frame and bakelite armrests.
