Sublime pair of sconce mirrors, one arm of light in gilded wood.

The exceptional work of the sculptures of the woodwork, interlacing acanthus leaves and eagles entirely gilded with the leaf, is remarkable.

The pediment reveals all the power of the raptor with its wings open and feathers spread, accompanied by two of its smaller but equally majestic congeners, themselves supported by two sleeping birds represented with their heads under one wing.

Of all the birds, the most common in the coat of arms is the eagle. Its reputation of strength and courage pushed the warriors to take it for emblem. Symbol of empire, majestý and victory, it has several physical and moral conveniences: strength, therefore dominance over other birds, magnanimitý, temperance.

It also represents gratitude.
It is of all the birds the one that rises the highest. That is why the ancients called it "the heavenly bird".

The architect Robert de COTTE would have been the first to introduce large mirrors on the chimneys. They often replaced the overmantels in the representation rooms. Framed on both sides by magnificent and wide arms of light, they can then increase the diffusion of this light.

This type of small mirrors, was used as sconces to support candles to illuminate the corridors or lounges of valuable residences. The reflective surface of the mirror allowed a pleasant and functional diffusion of the light.

This magnificent pair was entirely redone with gold leaf by the workshop of gilding on wood BAYOUDH HENDA - (Paris - Ile de France) or the know-how and the concern to preserve our beautiful inheritance, in the rules of art are the pillars of this workshop.
