BIOGRAPHY Alessandro Chia, better known as Sandro Chia (Florence, April 20, 1946), is an artist, painter and Italian sculptor. He was one of the most important members movement of the Italian Transavanguardia (movement in Europe also known under the name of Neo-expressionism), together with Francesco Clemente, Mimmo Paladino, Nicola De Maria and Enzo Cucchi. The movement founded by the critic Achille Bonito Oliva has had its heyday in the eighties, and then decline gradually. Sandro Chia has had a very diverse artistic training. In 1969 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, [1] where he came into contact with the main European neoavanguardia and later US; aRoma moved for a decade and then in New York for about twenty years.
