Produced as a pair of supporting corbels in a traditional Chinese home, these exquisitely carved wooden figures are from Anhui province, dating from the mid 19th century or earlier. They would have been produced by a highly skilled artisan, and carvings like this were common in the homes of wealthy merchants. The detail on each carving is superb, right down to the individual leaves on the tress above the main figures and the expressions on their faces. The corbels have each been mounted on a wooden base (not original) for displaying as wonderful, unusual ornaments.
Sold as a pair, the price shown is for the two carvings. Dimensions shown are for each corbel.
