Antique George III Mahogany Secretaire with Top Cabinet

Antique Mahogany George III Glazed Cabinet Bookcase Secretaire with an arrangement of pigeon hoes and oak lined drawers veneered in satinwood with turned brass knobs. The Bookcase has the original glass doors and 2 shelves and the original brass lock. Exceptional craftsmanship to the Cornice with detailed decorative carvings . The Bookcase sits firmly on the base of the secretaire and will be removed and wrapped separately for delivery to ensure safety in carriage and placement in the home. The Secretaire is in lovely condition and excellent quality. It has a beautiful rich tone and grain to the mahogany and decorative brass latch handles to the drawers, and desk supports. We believe these to be a later addition having been replaced at some time in the past. The Bureau has a pull down desk ledge which is supported by solid mahogany retractable supports on each side of the chest to create a sturdy desk to work at. The desk ledge has the original leather top which is worn in parts as one would expect having regard to the age of the piece however it adds to the authenticity and importantly in original condition with no restoration. The hinges have been replaced likely many years ago but the repair/replacements are sturdy and solid Most of the pull out pigeon drawers for storage of smaller items have the original brass handles and some have been replaced some time in the past. The main drawers are solid and sturdy and have well constructed casings and the drawers run nicely as one would expect from such a quality piece. This is a beautiful example of the hand craftsmanship of the period.
