The Kelsch is a traditional pure fabric flax or linen mixed with other vegetable fibers. Destined to become the bed linen, Kelsch were traditionally offered to newlyweds. Family heritage, the most beautiful pieces were never used and remained in full color cabinets, preserved as precious treasures. This fabric is emblematic of handicrafts Alsace (Region Ried, Valley of Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines). This is a fine example of folk art, witness of a bygone era but touching and current. This large quilt cover is woven in 3 colors.
The cover is large, woven in red white and blue. It dates from the early twentieth century. The back is former linen, hand sewn. Initials are embroidered there. The fabric pieces are more than a century old, they are hand sewn original. The Kelsch may be slightly stained or discolored in places.
