This distinctive antique table lamp is crafted from an original Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH) Gouda ceramic vase dated 1928, decorated in the Yozea pattern. Produced during a period of peak creativity at the Gouda factories, the vase reflects the refined dialogue between Art Deco modernism and Japonisme, a recurring influence in Dutch decorative arts of the early 20th century.

The lower portion of the vase is finished in a deep, saturated cobalt blue, transitioning smoothly into a softer dress-blue midsection that creates a sense of vertical movement and calm. Hand-painted floral motifs—suggestive of stylized fans or blossoms—are rendered in layered shades of teal, lending depth and rhythm to the surface. These are set against dark, branching forms that introduce contrast and structure, anchoring the composition with a naturalistic, almost calligraphic quality.

The design clearly references Japanese aesthetics as interpreted through a European lens: stylized botanical forms, controlled symmetry, and a restrained yet expressive palette. Rather than literal imitation, the Yozea pattern demonstrates how Japonisme informed Dutch ceramic design through abstraction, balance, and decorative clarity—hallmarks of PZH’s most successful Art Deco-era work.

The vase retains its original PZH factory marking on the base, including the Yozea pattern name and the 1928 date symbol, confirming its authenticity and period. The ceramic is in excellent condition, with the decoration crisp and well preserved, making it a highly collectible example of Gouda pottery thoughtfully adapted for contemporary use.

The lamp is topped with a new, hand-woven silk sari ribbon lampshade, custom made by Amitābha Studio, known for pairing historic European ceramics with artisanal textile shades. The shade’s softly irregular texture and muted green tones harmonize with the vase’s palette while adding warmth and tactility when illuminated, completing a piece that balances historic character with refined modern presentation.
