Art Deco Majolica Ceramic Sculpture of Nude Woman's Torso by Adolf Prischl for Goldscheider, Vienna, Austria, 1937

Beautiful sculpture made entirely by hand, this is not cast-on-mold pottery, but hand-molded clay then glazed and majolica on the hair, also all made by hand, strand by strand. Depicting a nude torso of a woman in full Deco style. The sculpture has a slightly satin finish on the body and richly glazed on the hair, creating a wonderful visual contrast. The work is numbered below the base and signed by the Austrian manufacture of Goldscheider. Sculpture made by Adolf Prischl around 1937. In our opinion, the sculptor, in making this work, was inspired by the Venus de Milo, one of the most famous Greek statues, preserved in the Louvre Museum in Paris.

A search of the web shows us that busts by this artist, very similar in style to our woman's torso, same workmanship, same hair and stylized like ours have been sold at auction even at over 1,000 euros, plus auction fees of 25-30%, even deco style ceramic babes sell from as low as 800-900 euros to over 1,500 euros, and there are nudes, also by this artist, offered at almost 2,000 on the most important online platforms for selling art and antiques. All this to give an idea of the value of the ceramics made by Adolf Prischl for Goldscheider.

Artist and/or manufactory information:
The Austrian manufacture of Goldscheider was founded in 1885, by the famous entrepreneur and artist Friedrich Goldscheider, and remained active until 1954. This manufactory is considered one of the most important manufactures of ceramics and earthenware of the late 1800s and early 1900s in Europe, and it employed the collaboration of the most important sculptors and ceramists of those times such as Lorenzl, Dakon, Knorlein, Meisinger, Goebel, Cherc, Rosé and many others. It boasts numerous auction results with deco ladies touching as much as six or seven thousand euros and orientalist terracottas beaten at more than 20,000 euros, always more rights.
