Atmos Clock from Jaeger Le Coultre, 1949

Unlike the later atmos models, the gait speed of the early clocks was set via a regulatory screw from behind above the pressure socket. Because there was often damage to the regulatory screw when the glass hood was lifted, it was then placed in front of the pressure socket in the early 1950s. After a few years, this position was also considered impractical and the regulation was then carried out from the clockwork and the pressure box using a slide. It is still so today.

Condition:
The clock is freshly revised and runs absolutely reliably and accurate.
Housing with minimal signs of wear, more easily "cleaning abrasion" at corners and edges. The photos are not "beautified", the state of housing is as shown in the photos.

Useful information:
In 1927, the young Ingenieuer Jean-Léon Reutter presented the prototype of the Atmos watch he developed.
The echo in the press was great and so he concluded a contract with the Compagnie Générale de Radiology, which from 1930 built and distributed the "Atmos I" under Reutters.
Since there were always problems with the clocks, the clockworks were made by Le Coultre et Cie in Switzerland from 1933 and in 1935 the production rights of the ATMOS clock became the ETS. Ed. Jaeger overwritten.
They focused on developing a simpler and more robust engine and from 1938 the era of the Atmos of Jaeger-Lecoultre began.

The "clock lives from the air" uses the "breathing movements" of a gas -filled bales to raise the clockwork during temperature fluctuations.
The work of the watch is striking due to its cylindrical can on the back. It is located in a balm -shaped chamber of expansion chloräthyl, a gas that extends particularly strongly between 10 ° C and 27 ° C.
A temperature difference of only one degree Celsius pulls the watch on for 48 hours. This interesting elevator mechanism finds its supplement in an excellent clockwork of extreme precision with a heavy torsion spendula (rotary pendulum).
The condition for the accuracy of the clock is a stable and vibration -free line -up.

The absolute environmental friendliness of the watch is also worth mentioning, which despite the unlimited duration of the gear does not require a battery and no other electrical drive.
The ATMOS has been the official state gift in Switzerland to prominent visitors, e.g. politicians from abroad for decades.
