Description:
Writing cabinet in cherry veneer standing on cut-out plinth frame.

In the lower part we see two doors with two large open compartments behind them.
Above it is the writing flap that folds forward and is held by wrought iron fittings. Counterweights are mounted on the back of the flap to ensure that the writing flap cannot fall forward even when not locked.
Inside we see a central compartment mirrored on the back and flanked by discreet solid columns. All around are a total of ten drawers.
There is a wide drawer in the overhanging and curved head section.

The piece of furniture impresses with its beautifully symmetrical grain on all sides. The veneers were laid in mirrored perfection, both on the front of the furniture and on the sides.
The black key plates contrast beautifully with the warm hue of the cherry wood.

All locks are original, the eye catching feature here is the impressive double bolt lock on the secretary door.

Fun Facts:
The "secretary" type of furniture, as you see it here, enjoyed great popularity in the Biedermeier period. Still in the Baroque and Classicism, mainly rolling and slanted flap secretaries were built. The classic form of the standing secretary, also called a writing cabinet, did not emerge until the late 18th century.

Condition:
Freshly restored and shellac polished condition. Great patina preservation. Absolutely authentic.
