This is a handsome antique trunk, which is ideal for use as a blanket chest at the foot of a bed, the perfect storage solution for bedding or winter clothes. The trunk could also be used as a small coffee table in front of a fire or as a toy box in a playroom. Dating to the early 20th century the chest is made of thick panels of solid wood, it could be teak or ceder wood.
It would have been made for use by a military man, to either end are the stamped initials of the original owner. The chest has a lift up lid which opens to reveal a clean interior and the chest is reinforced at the edges with black metal banding to add strength to its construction. The wood has a natural waxed finish which has quite a low sheen.
The chest is in solid structural condition. There are many marks of age and use, the top has bowed over the years but does sit securely into place in the double locks. The front has some deep scratches. The chest would have once had a handle to either end, these have been removed at some point in time.
