Antique bronze sculpture by the french sculptor and artist Isidore Bonheur (Bordeaux May 15th 1827 - 1901).
Depicted is a racing horse, "cheval de course", standing an looking back.
Beautiful naturalistic bronze on marble base.
Signed at the bottom "I. Bonheur".

The two crouching lions in stone that flank the staircase of the Palais de Justice on the Place Dauphine in Paris are not by far his best-known works, but they bear witness to the talent of a sculptor who produced a whole series of statuettes and small groups of animals in bronze that are otherwise well known.
Brother of Rosa Bonheur, very gifted, like her, for drawing and modeling, he trained with his father, the painter Raymond Bonheur, and then at the School of Fine Arts.
He excels in fixing, with great veracity, the attitudes, the spontaneous movements of the animal, even of the man: a mare which caresses her foal, a lioness playing with her cubs, a horse jumping a hedge, the game of polo. He appeared for the first time at the 1848 Salon with a painting and a plaster representing both an African rider attacked by a lion.
Bonheur is an artist who has created many exceptional works, which are absolutely worth preserving and are to be appreciated.
