About This Piece

Buddha Thailandese Bhumisparsha Mudra.In sitting position, the right hand resting on the legs with the fingers stretched out towards the ground and the palm facing inwards. The left hand resting on her lap, is open and with the palm facing upwards to symbolize the extreme will to reach enlightenment through meditation. This Mudra represents the gesture of Calling of the Earth as a testimony of Enlightenment and refers to a particular episode in the life of the Buddha. It is also known as the position of Mara as it recalls the victory of Buddha over Mara (the Evil One).
