The Concrete Credenza has a natural wooden oak base and legs, a white lacquered exterior, concrete fronts, and red painted steel pulls. The linear rigidity of the exterior is juxtaposed to the inner drawers which feature freehand drawings and marks. The hole in the cabinet's back is like a musical note; a perfect match of materials and color.
Alon designs and creates contemporary pieces in hardwood, all the while employing traditional-artisan techniques. Filled with the belief that it is the manual labor and the integrity of the material that bestow character and soul into a piece, he creates unique pieces designed in essential, simple lines, which allow the material to shine and empower it even further. Alon manipulates wood in order to achieve new textures, along with combining various materials such as leather, copper, brass, iron, concrete, aluminum, stone, korian, and marble. Alon also uses the ancient technique of inlaying whereby wood is laid into wood or even other materials with butterfly or X patch connectors. His inspiration emanates from material and technique, the perfection of imperfection, and the tension between gentle and rough, and wild and tamed.
