Danish Model 91 Wing Back Armchair by Svend Skipper for Skipper, 1950s About This Piece Vintage Design This Danish Svend Skipper chair is a tremendously recognizable design and testament to the midcentury design era. This particular 1950s design is a Model 91 'Papa Bear' from the Skipper Møbelfabrik and is fully reupholstered with the Ploeg Salt No. 83, a very comfortable and durable Trevira CS. fabric. Please do appreciate this chair is not to be recognized for Hans Jørgen Wegner's Papa Bear chair. This Svend Skipper chair features an oak base as well as sculpted dark oak ''paws'' at the end of the arms. The fat sides, high back and big ears not only provide for that coveted silhouette but add to the comfort of this chair. The ergonomics of this chair are fantastic and that is not a given in design furniture. We had it recently upholstered in a Ploeg Salt No. 83 to stay as close as possible to the design quality. The color play of the yarns creates a modern, almost graphic structure with De Ploeg Salt upholstery fabric. The optical play of colors is created by using a different color from wire to wire. The construction and use of color emphasize the rhythmic effect. The effect is a fabric with a special structure. That is why this pattern fits in a modern, sleek interior as well as in a rural or Classic interior. The oak base has been re-oiled and is in very good condition. Svend Skipper was a designer and furniture producer, who made only on commission. No mass production, but authentic Danish craftsmanship and quality.
