Named after the Italian word for lampshade, Il Paralume has indeed made a name for itself with its charming lamps and shades. Il Paralume has been based in the historic quarter of Rome for more than half a century and has forged close relationships with artisans across Italy—including, to name a few, independent ironsmiths and seamstresses, and a century-old workshop in Murano producing magnificent lamp bases. With these connections, the Il Paralume brand ensures its aesthetics and high standards carry through to the pieces of lighting it supplies.
In the past decade, Il Paralume has expanded its horizons within the field, adding designer furniture items from Italy and beyond to its assortment. The masterpieces of Paolo Venini, Gio Ponti, Pietro Chiesa, and Emil Stejnar, for example, now rest under the same roof at its British outlet, "Il Paralume Ltd," which was established in 2013 to build off what began in Rome, before becoming a storefront in Summer 2017. It is designers such as these that have made Il Paralume into a bridge between traditional design and contemporary living.
