Espacio Brut is a design studio in Madrid dedicated to the need for—and wonders of—alternative design. Braulio Rodríguez, the designer, trained as an architect and specializes in furniture design. He continues to work on building projects and also frequently collaborates with other architects and designers. José Cámara, the other half of espacioBRUT, focuses on the more organizational side of the business. Both men also work as interior designers in their studio HOLZ57 and as art gallery curators.
Since 2009, Espacio Brut has existed as both a studio and a store, as well as an art gallery and bookshop, filled with art and other items chosen for their ability to make people happy. The company's aim is to produce well-imagined and thought-out chairs, tables, shelves, and more that are influenced by the traditions of modernism and the European avant-garde—with the ultimate objective of improving people's lives.
According to Rodríguez, "Our furniture is like small buildings, or like creatures whose roots and cultural references can be found in the art, architecture, and design of 20th century. We believe in the longevity of our objects, not only because they are well-built by hand in a small workshop, but also because they are can easily fit within any kind of space and contemporary decor."
