Jamie Zigelbaum

New York, United States

Jamie Zigelbaum was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1978. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction from Tufts University in 2006 and a Master’s in Media Arts and Sciences from the Tangible Media Group at the MIT Media Lab in 2008, where he focused on inventing and researching next-generation user interfaces. In 2010, Zigelbaum and Marcelo Coelho cofounded Zigelbaum + Coelho, a multidisciplinary design firm initially based in Boston.

Zigelbaum moved to New York in 2012 and Zigelbaum + Coelho dissolved in 2013. Since then, he has been creating art and design pieces under his own name. Zigelbaum also founded a company called Midnight Commercial, which he describes as a “digital experiential agency,” serving a range of brand clients.

Zigelbaum’s work blurs the lines between art, science, technology, and design; through it, he explores the evolving concepts of self, connectivity, communication, and representation. His projects range from interactive sculptures to film, lighting installations, and more. His work is included in several private collections, including the Rothschild Collection and the Frankel Foundation for Art. He has exhibited internationally at venues such as Ars Electronica, Linz, Austria; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.; and Johnson Trading Gallery, New York. Awards include the Designers of the Future from Design Miami/Basel (2010) and Best Music Video and Video of the Year from the British Video Music Awards (2011).

Zigelbaum lives and works in New York City.
