Rich Brilliant Willing founders Theo Richardson (born in Toronto, Ontario, in 1983), Charles Brill (born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1983), and Alexander Williams (born in Damariscotta, Maine, in 1982) met as students at the Rhode Island School of Design. After graduating with Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in 2006, the trio launched Rich Brilliant Willing in 2007. With an exploratory approach and a modern and minimal aesthetic, the studio designs and self-produces lighting and furniture.. The studio oversees each of its projects from beginning to end: design, assembly, and distribution.
While relatively new, the studio has earned multiple honors in its short lifespan. RBW was named among the “Top 40” designers by I.D. magazine in 2007; in 2011, the studio was honored with the International Contemporary Furniture Fair’s Best New Designer award and included in Forbes Magazine’s influential list of 30 under 30 working in Art & Design. Originally located in Manhattan, the design studio has recently moved to a new space in Brooklyn.
