Taher Chemirik

Paris, France

Born in 1955 in Algeria, Taher Chemirik is a graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris (ENSAD). He began his career designing costumes and accessories for the Paris Opera and the Comédie Française, and then became a decorator for Ralph Lauren stores. In 1990, he turned his attention to jewelry. Since that time, he has collaborated with some of the world’s most prestigious fashion labels, including Chloé, Hermès, Balenciaga, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, and Roger Vivier. Pieces from his own jewelry collection earned him a place in Time magazine’s 2007 list of the world’s most influential designers. Three of his pieces are included in the permanent collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

In 2009, Chemirik also began designing objects for the home, creating pieces for the likes of Bernardaud, Christofle, and India Mahdavi. Today, Chemirik's furniture pieces are exclusively produced and sold by Galerie BSL.
