From 1956 to 1960 graduated Büttner and apprenticeship as a decorator and poster artist in Zeitz, it closed until 1961 to study at the College of Applied Arts in Heiligendamm. During this time the company moved to Rostock. From 1961 to 1966 he worked as a graphic designer at the Theater Kleist Theater Frankfurt (Oder) and the Volkstheater Rostock. In 1967 he was admitted to the Association of Artists of the GDR. 1987 and 1988 Büttner worked as a member of the jury of poster biennials in Fort Collins (Colorado, USA) and Lahti (Finland). In 1989, he took along with five European designers at the Campagne Il you désarmement part in Paris.

1992 Büttner President of the Academy of Arts Pro Arte in Rostock, 1993 member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI). In 1994 he worked in the planning team for the poster exhibition on humor and satire in Essen. At times he worked as a lecturer at the Rostock Technical Art School.

Large international attention gained 1,996 Büttners design for the Bugbemalung the new ships of the cruise company AIDA Cruises. The article consists of eyes (both sides) and a kiss on the mouth nose cone. Starting with today AIDAcara a design concept was implemented, which has continued to date for all subsequent new ships of the shipping company. Also in the artistic interior design of the AIDA ships Feliks Büttner is involved.

2018 he illustrated for the Joachim-Ringelnatz Club in Wurzen the exhibition catalog, entitled: Joachim Ringelnatz Feliks Büttner, who was released from Rostock Hinstorff publishing.

Feliks Büttner lives and works in a historic windmill in Lichtenhagen, on the outskirts of Rostock.
