Geometries Impossible Silkscreen by Jose Maria Yturralde, 1988

This is a screenprint of the series 'Geometries Impossible' by the artist Jose Maria Yturralde. This series was one of his most successful, so in the 1980s the artist reissued some of the pieces. This piece symbolizes DNA.

Jose Maria Yturralde was born in Cuenca in 1942. He has a degree and a PhD in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and an 'Académico de Número' from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos de Valencia. He is currently a professor of painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Valencia. In 1968 he became an intern at the Computing Center of the University of Madrid, where he completed his first job with computers. He has won several awards and had residencies abroad, among other centers, at MIT, where he came in contact with György Kepes, Otto Piene, Jürgen Claus, Walter de Maria and Mark Mendel among others. He served as Deputy Curator at the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca. He developed an artistic style close to science, such as his Impossible Figures. He introduced cybernetic art in Spain, also doing laser and holographic work. He is also the creator of the 'Flying Structures', three-dimensional works, which are capable of flying. In his most recent works, he has focused on the study of color and its influence on emotions and mood.
