A striking hand-thrown studio vase by German ceramic artist Wolf-Diether Pölloth (1937–1999), distinguished by its atmospheric painterly glaze decoration and refined sculptural form.

The vase presents a gently swelling bottle silhouette with harmonious proportions, elevated by a remarkable surface composition in deep black, smoky grey, and warm rose-pink tones. The layered glazes flow across the vessel in broad, expressive gestures, creating an effect reminiscent of geological strata, distant horizons, or abstract landscape painting.

Executed in reddish-brown stoneware and finished with a glossy glaze, the piece beautifully demonstrates Pölloth's ability to combine disciplined form with richly nuanced surfaces. Variations in glaze density create subtle transitions between matte and reflective passages, giving the vase exceptional depth and visual complexity.

Wolf-Diether Pölloth belonged to the important tradition of German studio ceramics that flourished in the second half of the twentieth century.
