About This Piece

Salix is part of Giuseppe Caiafa’s Optical Series, a body of work exploring light, rhythm and perception through carved wood surfaces.

The panel is meticulously engraved to create a flowing, wave-like geometry that changes according to the viewer’s perspective. The surface is finished with gold and silver leaf, then softly patinated with oil pigments to enhance depth and chiaroscuro effects.

The result is a refined interplay between light and shadow: reflections shift throughout the day, activating the artwork and transforming it into a dynamic visual experience.

Entirely handcrafted in Italy, this piece bridges sculpture and painting, combining traditional wood carving techniques with contemporary optical research. Unique piece.
