About This Piece

Antique Italian painting from the 17th century. Artwork oil on canvas depicting a subject of sacred art, Christ in front of Pilate, of excellent pictorial quality. Painting inspired by the sixteenth century masterpiece by Andrea Meldolla, known as Schiavone. Ecce Homo of great size and impact, full of characters and decorative elements, for antique dealers and interior decorators. In the Gospel according to Matthew, Pilate washes his hands, a blatant gesture in front of the crowd which indicates that he does not intend to assume any responsibility for the killing of Jesus. In fact, addressing the audience he states: I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man, you will answer for it . Ideal painting to be placed in an important salon or studio, for antique dealers and interior decorators. Painting that has undergone a conservative restoration, re-lining, replacement of the frame and color recovery in some points (see photo). In good condition.
