About This Piece

Signed canvas oil, representing a lively view of the Garnier Palace in the rain.
Built at the request of Napoleon III, the Opera of Charles Garnier is an architectural wonder classified as a historical monument.
The artist illustrates here a scene of Parisian life of the early twentieth century. Under an autumn sky and dusk, we discover the tumult of the Paris streets mixing walkers and cars. Street lights and shops illuminate passers-by. The opera culminates in the background, recognizable by its large copper covered dome and its statues symbolizing music, harmony and poetry.
The work is enshrined in a wide frame made of golden wood, carved and molded, richly ornamented of floral motifs, palmettes and mansions. This frame stands out for its depth, reliefs and deep color.
