Monumental French Provincial Floor Lamp in Carved Wood and Parchment Shade, France, 1940s. This is a very imposing and distinct 1940s floor lamp in carved wood with a period shade in parchment. Originates from a French castle and was presumably estate-made. The central column of the lamp is elaborately carved with a series of deep, spiraling grooves and was presumably made from an estate crafted antique wine-press. It stands tall with a sturdy, square base with beautifully carved decorations. The parchment shade is wonderfully made and of superb quality. The translucent nature of this material makes a very atmospheric and pleasant lighting effect. Please also note the high quality stitching. Overall, this is a very distinct and unique floor lamp - a bold statement piece. Comes in a good and original vintage condition with a desirable patina and traces of age and use.
