About This Piece

Vintage Design

Hugo Frandsen large planter in Santos rosewood, manufactured by Spottrup Stolefabrik, Denmark, 1960s. A beautifully proportioned Danish modern design that combines sculptural simplicity with exceptional craftsmanship.

Executed in richly figured rosewood, the planter features a generously sized rectangular black metal planter box that appears to float within an elegant solid rosewood frame. The warm tones and dramatic grain of the rosewood create a striking contrast against the matte black metal insert, resulting in a refined and timeless aesthetic.

The solid rosewood base is constructed with four rounded legs connected by beautifully shaped stretchers, showcasing the understated elegance and high-quality joinery characteristic of Danish furniture from the period. The clean architectural lines and balanced proportions make the piece equally suitable as an indoor planter or as a decorative standalone object.

Presented in very good condition, with a beautiful warm rosewood patina and only light signs of age and use consistent with its vintage character. The original black metal planter insert is also well preserved, complementing the sculptural wooden frame. A rare and elegant example of Danish mid-century design by Hugo Frandsen.
