An exceptional pair of French Louis XVI style gilt bronze mirrored wall sconces by Maison Lucien Gau, Paris, model 16572, handcrafted in France during the early 20th century.

Founded in Paris in 1860, Maison Lucien Gau is internationally renowned for preserving the finest traditions of French bronze craftsmanship. Its workshops continue to produce exceptional lighting and architectural bronzes inspired by the great decorative styles of the 18th century.

This elegant pair corresponds to Model 16572 from the official Lucien Gau collection, currently distributed by Lumitop, the official French distributor of Maison Lucien Gau.

Each sconce features an oval beveled mirror framed by a finely beaded gilt bronze border, surmounted by the iconic Louis XVI ribbon bow. Two gracefully scrolling candle arms decorated with finely chased acanthus leaves and delicate beaded details create a perfectly balanced composition of remarkable elegance and refinement.

Entirely handcrafted in solid bronze using traditional casting, chasing and hand-finishing techniques, these sconces beautifully illustrate the exceptional quality and timeless design for which Maison Lucien Gau is celebrated.

Their refined proportions and understated elegance make them equally suitable for classical, transitional and contemporary interiors.

Condition

Excellent antique condition.

The original gilt bronze presents a beautiful warm golden patina acquired naturally over time, enhancing the richness and depth of the bronze.

The beveled mirrors remain in excellent condition, showing only very light age-related patina consistent with careful preservation.

The sconces have been professionally rewired for European use (220–240V). As with all antique lighting, they should be inspected and, if necessary, adapted by a qualified electrician to comply with the electrical standards of the destination country, including the United States.
