Vintage Design

This is a work by the artist Marcello Avenali (1912-1981) performed in 1969. It is a sculpture in steel and glass oriented to the reflected channeling of light. In 1970 it was multiplied by an installation for Banco Santo Spirito (Banca del Vaticano) at the Rome headquarters in Piazza del Quirinale which was then dismantled in 1980. The production of the 36 pieces was executed by 'Manifattura Specchi e Vetri by Felice Quintin' (Florence). The structure was placed in correspondence of two large windows (180x360 cm.), It features a circular steel band, 60 cm in diameter. On the external side, it has 12 brass supports to which mobile steel blades are fixed. On the internal side it has 24 brass supports each of which is fixed by a movable steel element supporting amber-colored glass paste parallelepipeds of different shades. The possibility of adjusting all the transparent and reflective elements makes the structure set while the luminous and filtering effects are freely variable. The piece measures 60 cm in diameter with slats closed to 95 with open slats. It is plased on a base of approximately 100 x 90 cm. A certificate and assessment of the foundation are available, as well as a certificate from the glass manufacturer. A photograph of the current base authorized by the Avenali Foundation. The work can be supplied with single elements, with modules, or on a base. The price indicated is to be considered with base.
