Magician with Cards Circus Figurine by Peter Strang for Meissen, 1992

Excellent Meissen Porcelain Figurine: Man standing with legs apart, with a moustache and hair combed up into a point, large patterned bow tie, floor-length white tailcoat with purple collar, purple suit trousers, green shoes, golden flower arrangements on his lapel and coat pocket, with fanned-out, concealed cards in his raised left hand, performing a magic trick. Based on a curved rectangular base with a bouquet of flowers at his feet, artist's signature 'PS' on the back of the base. A series of circus figures by Peter Strang, the long-standing chief sculptor at the Meissen manufactory, are an extraordinary homage to the colourful world of acrobats and magicians, full of movement and humour, handmade unique pieces with loving details, artfully painted. with their distinctive, expressive design language, they combine traditional porcelain art with contemporary expressiveness and poetry.

Designed by Peter STRANG (1936 - 2022) Sculptor, from 1950 at the Meissen manufactory, studied at the academy in Dresden, 1973-2001 artistic director at the Meissen manufactory, then freelance, from 1981 resident in Moritzburg, created numerous genre and animal figures as well as wall sculptures.
