Vintage Design

Set of Eight restored 1960s Johannes Andersen dining chairs in mahogany made by Uldum Møbler, Denmark including custom reupholstery.

The set of dining chairs feature a clean simple yet elegant design that will fit in well in many settings.

The chairs have been fully restored - all joints checked and split apart and reglued under pressure if any signs of them getting loose, all other needed repairs made, sanded 2 - 3 times by hand and varnished 2 - 3 times - the final layer of varnish await buyers decision regarding how shiny it should be - to insure that they are in very good condition with only minimal signs of age and use and will be reupholstered with out extra cost in a wide range of "Kvadrat" or "Romo" fabrics of your choice before they are shipped. In case you wish to handle the reupholstery by your self we will deliver the chairs ready for upholstery with a discount.

About the Creator

Johannes Andersen

While information on designer Johannes Andersen is limited and difficult to verify, it is believed that he was born in 1903 in Aarhus, Denmark, and that he initially apprenticed as a cabinetmaker. He went on to work for many years in a number of workshops before opening his own architectural and furniture workshop in the 1930s.

Andersen’s designs span seating, tables, and storage in well-crafted materials, such as rosewood and teak. His career paralleled the midcentury’s growing appreciation for Danish furniture designs, and he attracted international attention—particularly for coffee tables like the highly sculptural Smile Table.

Andersen worked steadily for his own firm—as well as Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian companies such as Trensum, CFC Silkeborg, Bramin, and Uldum Møbelfabrik—until he closed his shop in his eighties. He passed away in 1991.
