About This Piece

Contemporary Design

Matek Archive Cabinet in Recycled Composite by Project Materia. Designed by Willem Van Hooff. Dimensions: W 50 x D 30 x H 78 cm. Materials: MATEK™ recycled composite. A cabinet reflecting the transition from physical to digital memory, designed as a vessel for stories. Matek™. A circular material by Mater - made from discarded coffee shells, sawdust and recycled plastic. The medium of the Project Materia 2026 edition. Matek is developed from discarded resources - coffee shells from coffee production and sawdust from the wood industry - bound together with recycled plastic or a plastic-based alternative. The result is a new material that can be moulded using established techniques from the furniture industry, turning existing resources into durable design objects rather than relying on virgin materials.
