Maurice Picaud, Art Deco Dancer, 1976, Plaster Relief, Framed

Spectacular Gold Relief Art Deco signed and dated, made by the great French architect and designer Maurice Picaud "Pico" (1900-1977) which was selected by Paul Derval, owner of the mythical cabaré folies Bergeres in Paris in the 20s, to design The new facade of the building. To do this, Maurice Picaud was inspired by the hypnotizing movements of the dancer Lila Nikolska, being her model to create this wonderful work. Nikolska made several inns, of which Pico chose the elegant pose with arms up and torso back to provide great movement to sculpture, this moment fortunately we can observe it thanks to an ancient photography rescued from Die Bühne magazine in 1929. To present his work, Maurice originally made the relief in plaster on scale for his presentation, a moment that was also immortalized in one of the images we show here. As a curiosity, we can see that the original design showed the dancer with loose hair, later, for the facade, a cloche hat, a female complement essential in the interwar period was placed at the request of Paul Derval. After the construction of the facade, Maurice Picaud obtained great recognition thanks to this fantastic work, making it one of the top exponents of Art Deco, which led him to do this work in his original version on a scale until he died in 1977 in 1977 in The small French town of Gassin. This incredible piece is signed "peak" in the back and dated 76, just one year before his death, making it one of last works carried out in the artist's life. Without a doubt, this creation is a piece of the exciting history of art and our beloved Art Deco.
