Contemporary Design

Designed by English design star Max Lamb for 1882 Ltd, Crockery is a collection of fine bone china tableware, slip-cast from plaster molds that were carved by hand. Lamb developed the rough-hewn forms of each piece by using stonemasonry tools to sculpt large blocks of plaster, which were then used as the molds in the slip-casting process. The interiors have been glazed for practicality, while the exteriors retain a natural bisque finish. This collection possesses a visual weight that delightfully contrasts with the weightless feeling in the hand. And they’re safe for use in the dishwasher and microwave.

1882 Ltd is a traditional ceramic producer for the 21^st century. Originally set-up by the Johnson Brothers in the heart of the Stoke-on-Trent potteries in 1882, the company today remains a family business, brought back to life in 2011 by Emily Johnson and her father Christopher.

Frequently collaborating with the most sought-after contemporary designers, Emily hopes to bring inventively designed ceramics to a wider audience while testing the skill and patience of the Master Potter, Christopher Johnson, and the incredibly talented potters, modelers, and makers that reside in Stoke-on-Trent.

Delivery Details

Delivery will be completed by a parcel service such as UPS, DHL, or FedEx.

A wooden crate may be used for intercontinental shipments for maximum protection.
Item will be left in its packaging after delivery.

About the Designer

Max Lamb

Born in 1980, Max Lamb is a native of Cornwall, England. Lamb cites his upbringing in this bucolic landscape as the source for his creative spirit and his deep appreciation for natural materials. He earned a degree in Three Dimensional Design from Northumbria University in 2003, and, in the same year, he was awarded both the Hettich International Design Award and the Peter Walker Award for Innovation in Furniture Design. In 2006, he completed his Masters Degree in Design Products at the Royal College of Art.

After a year designing for Tom Dixon Studio, he established his own practice in 2007 and began teaching at ECAL in Switzerland. Lamb is known for creating beautifully crafted pieces with materials and traditional processes at their core. His work is infused with a strongly international sensibility, informed by his travels to China, Japan, India, Nigeria, and elsewhere.
