H 32 cm x W 27 cm x D 8 cm Indoor use and dry locations only. Michel Buffet is an international designer, born in Paris in 1931. He enrolled at the École national supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, where he was taught by Louis Sognot, one of the founders of the Union des artistes modernes movement. After receiving Engineer and Interior Architect degrees, he focused on creating objects: furniture and home fixtures that were subject to limited editions. His meeting with Jacques Viénot, creator of Technès, guided his career towards what was then called industrial design. His iconic lamps are made from white-lacquered sheet metal and varnished brass. The dozen or so models he designed are strikingly sculptural, consisting of an assemblage of rounded forms partly inspired by the architecture of Oscar Niemeyer. Each lighting design is a concept refined down to its essence by minimalist forms and clean lines. The pieces — first presented in 1953 at two trade fairs in Paris’s Grand Palais — were manufactured for only about five or six years.
