Mid-Century Spanish Mudéjar Style Ceramic Pitcher by Domingo Punter, 1970s

This mid-century Spanish ceramic pitcher was hand-thrown, hand-painted, and signed by Domingo Punter, a master of Teruel’s celebrated Mudéjar revival. Produced circa 1960s–1970s, it displays the distinctive green and black palette painted over a white tin glaze, a hallmark of Aragón’s medieval ceramic tradition. Bold geometric cartouches frame stylized eyes, leaves, and heraldic motifs, evoking the Gothic towers of Teruel while carrying a modern graphic sensibility.

The pitcher is shaped from the region’s characteristic reddish clay, visible at the footring. The base bears the inscription “Domingo Punter / Teruel / R. 18,” confirming direct authorship by the artist himself rather than a workshop mark. Such fully signed examples are rarer and particularly sought after among collectors for their authenticity and provenance.

Domingo Punter (b. ca. 1936) was instrumental in reviving Cerámica de Teruel, safeguarding its Mudéjar heritage while adapting it for 20th-century interiors. His signed works embody both technical mastery and cultural continuity, making this pitcher a highly collectible example of Spanish mid-century ceramic art.
