The embellished edging (border) forms a beautiful contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug. In the middle of the central field of this Kashan is the symmetrical center, also called medallion. The design of the field is arranged in such a way that it gives the impression that the medallion is floating on the field. The luxuriant flower motifs of this Kashan are elegant and varied. The graceful vegetative symbols representing flowers, leaves and branches are artfully intertwined. A special highlight of this Kashan is its signature. The signature documents the production in one of the most renowned weaving workshops in Kashan. The signature in Arabic characters is an expression of the individuality and noble origin of this rug. The background of this Kashan is rusty red. The border features dark blue, blue gray and rusty red. The blue gray center combines the colors dark blue and golden beige. You are not the first to enjoy this Kashan. It has had owners before you, who have cherished and used it. It was hand knotted about 1920 and has served devotedly ever since. All in all, it is still in good condition and can still bring satisfaction for decades. We have not restored this Kashan, because we think it is as it is effect. If that is what you would like, we will be happy to restore the rug for you, of course. The pile of this Kashan has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Kashan are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
