The abstract, geometric composition creates the simple elegance of this Shirvan. The pattern flatters the design of the room and does not take the attention away from its furniture, decoration and architectural elements. It creates a pleasant atmosphere without dominating the style of the room. The embellished edging (border) forms a excellent contrast to the center and creates a transition at the edge of the rug. In the middle of the central field of this Shirvan is the symmetrical center, also called medallion. The design of the field is arranged in such a way that it gives the impression that the medallion is floating on the field. The background of this Shirvan is dark red. The colors blue gray and dark red dominate the overall impression. The border features blue gray, off white and olive green. The blue gray center combines the colors dark blue and old rose. This Shirvan has had admirers before you. It was hand knotted about 1940. It has been thoroughly cleaned and only partially restored condition but is in good condition. We have not completely restored this Shirvan because we think it is as it is a special charm. The pile of this Shirvan has been hand-knotted from high-quality virgin wool. Virgin wool is obtained through the gentle shearing of sheep. Virgin wool is a sustainable, natural raw material with a number of impressive properties; due to the wool's natural fat content, the surface repels water droplets and is thus naturally impervious to dirt. Wool also offers excellent thermal insulation, has a regulating effect on living climate and muffles sound. The weft and warp threads of this Shirvan are made of cotton. This versatile material is tear-resistant and stretchable and, therefore, ideal for a durable backing fabric.
