Wim Rietveld (1924-1985) Gispen period: 1956 origin: The Netherlands dimensions: h42 x w122 x d41 cm material: metal, plastic Wim Rietveld, son of legend Gerrit Th. Rietveld, is most known for his designs made during his employment at Gispen, from 1953-1957. His work never fails to catch the eye: a beauty so plain and honest that it is disarming. He has influenced many other designers in his time and after. His famous ‘Panama’ lamp, officially called Giso 4050, is named after a Panama hat, which inspired its shape. It is part of the collection of Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
