Paper Akari 10A Floor Lamp attributed to Isamu Noguchi, 1990s

Floor lamp, model 10A, designed by Isamu Noguchi. Manufactured by Ozeki & Company Ltd. (Japan). Bamboo ribbing structure covered by washi paper manufactured according to the traditional procedures. This exceptional Isamu Noguchi Akari 10A floor lamp is a rare hybrid piece combining two eras of Akari craftsmanship. The metal and bamboo structure is an original 1950s base preserved from the early production period. Many years ago, the original shade was damaged, and in the late 1990s the previous owner installed an authentic Akari paper shade—complete with the original stamped Akari seal—carefully adapting it by hand to fit the 1950s base. The result is a beautiful and unique combination that merges mid-century structure with a later-period Akari shade, maintaining the sculptural presence and warm, ambient glow characteristic of Noguchi’s work. The shade has a small pinhole, typical of vintage Akari lamps, as shown in the images. Aside from this minor detail, the lamp is in very good vintage condition and emits a wonderfully soft, atmospheric light. A distinctive and charming example for collectors and admirers of Noguchi’s timeless design.
