About This Piece

The Antique Paintings, Seascape Paintings category presents a fine marina, an oil painting on canvas, dating to the

early years of the 20th century. The artwork depicts a harbor scene with fishing boats moored in calm waters,

likely set in a Northern European port. The water is rendered with soft, fluid brushstrokes, reflecting the boats and the sky,

conveying a strong sense of stillness and tranquility.

The cloudy sky, painted in light tones, creates a quiet and contemplative atmosphere.

The marina is signed lower right “P. Verbeke”, a Belgian painter best known for his works inspired by the sea, harbors, and fishermen’s life.

Pierre Verbeke (1895–1962) was a Belgian painter born in Ostend. After his initial training at the Ostend Academy of Fine Arts,

he studied under artists such as Henri Permeke, Pierre Raoux, and Flori Van Acker.

He later continued his studies at the Academies of Bruges and Antwerp, where his main teacher was Julien De Vriendt,

and eventually traveled and studied in France. Pierre Verbeke exhibited his works in several major cities, including Antwerp, Brussels,

Luxembourg, Paris, and Zurich.

This antique painting features its original carved and lacquered wooden frame, contemporary with the artwork.

Both the frame and the antique canvas have been carefully and professionally cleaned and restored.
