About This Piece

Vintage Design

Very rare, and unique. Chessboard, travel chess sets, miniature, in Russian artisanal porcelain, stamped from Gzhel, Turigino near Moscow, vintage 80s-90s, craftsmanship, hand painted in the traditional style, royal blue, floral and geometric patterns typical of Gzhel. Signed under the body and under the top of the artist Yuri Nikolaevich Garanin, Гаранин, Honorary Artist of Russia since 97, some of his pieces are visible in museums in Russia. The base is a box made up of a body with 2 compartments for the pieces, false drawers/handles on either side and 4 small feet, the chessboard, board, is a cover. 16 white pieces, 16 black pieces, complete, Kings 3cm high, pawns 2cm. Small squares of felt at the base of the pieces. Tray 19x19cm, 21cm length with handles, 20cm width for body, 5.5cm max height. The Artist has produced a certain number of chess sets, however travel chess is rare in his production. Piece of great delicacy, lots of finesse in the details. New condition. Slightly wobbly on his feet. Approximately 1,280kg for the whole.
