Vintage Design

This Portuguese blue and white faience table lamp brings historic artistry into a contemporary setting. Crafted in the mid to late 20th century from a hand-painted vase in the Delft-inspired Coimbra revival style, the lamp features lively cobalt scenes of birds, animals, and floral rosettes set against a tin-glazed white ground. The vase base echoes 17th-century Coimbra pottery, when Portuguese artisans drew influence from Ming porcelain and Dutch Delftware.

The vase is hand-signed V.N. Anços / Soure / Portugal / Sec. XVII / 199, a mark typical of mid-20th-century workshops in the Coimbra district known for their revival wares. These motifs—playful animals, ornamental borders, and dotted “moscas”—connect the piece to centuries of Iberian ceramic tradition.

Paired with a new pleated white silk shade, the lamp offers a soft, beautiful light. Its versatile palette suits coastal, classic, and eclectic interiors, while the playful folkloric motifs add warmth and charm to any room, perhaps even a nursery or children's room.
