Historicism / Renaissance Revival, circa 1900.

The chair is inspired by the famous Italian Savonarola and Dantesca chairs of the Renaissance from the 15th and 16th centuries. Characteristic features include the curved, X-shaped scissor legs, the monumental silhouette, and the rich carved ornamentation.

Presumably a high-quality German or Central European workshop piece from around 1900.

Material & Craftsmanship

Made of solid oak with a dark-stained finish. The construction consists of numerous curved slats that form the typical scissor mechanism.

The detachable backrest is richly carved with scrollwork, floral ornaments, and a central heraldic cartouche motif. The armrests terminate in sculpted lion heads. All carvings were executed by hand and underscore the piece's prestigious character.

Function & Features

The chair folds completely flat and, despite its solid construction, features a smooth-running scissor mechanism.

The carved backrest is removable and attaches to the back. The chair is suitable both as seating and as a decorative collector's item for historically furnished living rooms, libraries, or hunting lodges.

Condition

Good antique condition with age-related patina and typical signs of wear.

The scissor mechanism functions perfectly, and the chair is stable.

There is a small chip on one side of the attachable backrest (see detail photo). Otherwise, the chair is in good overall condition.
