Vintage Design

J.&J. Kohn – Josef Hoffmann – Seating Group (3) – “Fledermaus” – Beech & Fabric Upholstery – Austria, Jugendstil, 1900–1910

A rare and authentic seating group designed by Josef Hoffmann for J.&J. Kohn, featuring one sofa and two matching armchairs from the iconic Fledermaus series. This early 20th-century ensemble reflects the pure geometric forms and aesthetic elegance of the Viennese Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) movement.

The frames are crafted in bent beech wood with a warm brown finish and original or period-appropriate fabric upholstery. The curved silhouettes and pierced backrests are signature elements of Hoffmann’s progressive design language.

Dimensions:

Sofa: Height 77 cm × Width 121 cm × Depth 55 cm

Armchairs (each): Height 76 cm × Width 60 cm × Depth 57 cm

Condition:
Fair condition – heavily used with visible patina, wear, and signs of age. Structurally sound but may benefit from restoration or reupholstery, depending on preference. A true collector’s piece retaining its historic charm.

Provenance:
Austria, circa 1900–1910. Original period production by Gebrüder J.&J. Kohn, prior to the Kohn-Mundus merger.
