Vintage Design

Signed bronze sculpture by Fonderia Artistica Sommer, Naples, after the celebrated ancient Pompeian figure traditionally known as Narcissus and now often identified as Bacchus (Dionysus). Model No. 72 from Sommer’s renowned Grand Tour production. Cast in bronze with dark patina and raised on the original circular base bearing the foundry inscription.

Fonderia Artistica Sommer was established by Giorgio Sommer (1834–1914), the influential photographer and founder who became one of the leading producers of high-quality bronze reproductions of archaeological masterpieces from Pompeii and Herculaneum. Sommer bronzes were exported internationally and are highly sought after by collectors of Grand Tour art.
