In solid walnut wood, carved with geometric and plant motifs with acanthus leaf motifs.

The state of conservation is exceptional: the lock and the keyhole are original with the bisagra nail of the time as the interior.

It has been covered with a beautiful garnet chenille fabric with a classic silver medallion pattern.

This type of wedding trunk was mainly used in Italy and Spain from the 14th to the 17th century and was the typical closet for clothes, linen, money and more. As a container of clothing, it appears, for example, in the context of Titian's Venus of Urbino.

It was usually placed in bedrooms and often contained the bride's trousseau, so they are real wedding chests made for weddings, often decorated with the coats of arms of the families of the spouses. Equipped with handles, it was literally transported on the wedding day from the house of the bride to that of her husband, and thus represented both the luggage she took with her and the dowry with which she enlarged the house of the bride. . the wife. Cassoni was also given to girls of good family who entered the convent.
